Umjumi - Rhodesian Ridgeback Breeder in South Africa

At Umjumi, each individual is as important and valued as another. All are loved and nurtured equally, from the day they arrive until nature takes it's course. Our dogs are companions, characters and personalities first and foremost, their successes or otherwise in the Ring or on the Breed Register, very much incidental.  Take a look at them in the pages that follow and let them speak for themselves.

  •  Suitable AI applications and puppy enquiries, will always be considered.

NATAL TRIO !

Three shows / Three CCs for our young pretender. Compounding his CC and Best Puppy in Show at Sporting Dogs on the Rand, Sangu took all 3 Certificates on offer at the Natal Shows over the Public Holiday week-end, together with the Best Puppy awards. Now well on his way to the coveted Champion title, whilst still a puppy. Well done lad!!

WOTTA WEEKEND!

The Easter long weekend turned out to be something of a "Goldfields Gala" for Ridgebacks and "Ridgebackers," with dogs and owners enjoying fabulous weather and a warm, friendly atmosphere in which to share their passion for our Breed.

Both the Sporting Dogs Association Show on the Saturday and the SA RRC Specialty Show on Sunday had high turnouts, with plenty of quality hounds on show. Friendly rivalry ensured a good day out for all concerned, on both days.

The Umjumi trio enjoyed success on both occasions, with our promising young male Sangu winning his first CC at Sporting Dogs, before going on to take the Best Puppy in Show award. Nenji won the Bitch CC and Reserve BOB, with Tuku taking the RCC and Best Veteran in Breed.

Next day at the SA RRC Specialty Show, all three Umjumi's won their respective classes, with Nenji going on to win BOS and Best Champion in Show.

All in all, a great weekend for Ridgebacks in general and Team Umjumi in particular, with wins at both well organized and well attended events.

 Well done all concerned.

UMJUMI RHODESIAN RIDGEBACKS TRIBUTE TO CH USAKOSE THE BOY FROM OZ - "Jubane" 01.08.1998 - 05.05.2011

Jubane passed peacefully away in the presence of his devoted adopted owners - David & Vega Cort on the 5th of May 2011.

Umjumi Ridgebacks would like to pay tribute to a noble hound, whose contribution to our South African bloodlines has been significant.

Bred by Sharon Taylor, Jubane was imported to South Africa in 1999, by Yvonne du Preez and joined her famous Roodedraai kennel on her farm Rietvlei, KZN.

His relatively short, but sparkling Show career, saw him rapidly gain his South African Champion title, against the stiff competition of those days. However, it was his contribution to our local gene pool, that his lasting legacy lies. Ch Usakose the Boy from Oz appears in the pedigree of a number of our top winning lines and his attributes of a superb temperament, excellent type and conformation, with that essential degree of Ridgeback character and personality, have been passed on. As many a contemporary fine specimen of our Breed will attest.

Well done and Hamba khashle numzaan. Go well - A Gentleman Hound indeed

Our Fabulous Femba's promising Show Career has been tragically cut short

During January she was critically injured, defending her hearth & home from perceived intruders. Thankfully, her life was spared, due to her fitness, will power and the magnificent efforts of her Vetinerarian and staff. However, she will never again grace the Show Ring.

A long recovery period lies ahead for her but, with careful physiotherapy and the support of Team Umjumi, she should pull through to enjoy considerable quality of life. Possibly passing on her precious genes, in time.

The difficult journey has commenced and she is setting off like the true Ridgeback Champion she is, with courage and tenacity. Go girl, you are a Star!

For details of her career to date, see Femba's page, elsewhere in this website

It is with great sadness that Umjumi Kennels announce the passing of their Matriarch, Champion Cartouche Dineo of Umjumi.
